He is a Professor and Scientific Director of the Smart Grids and Smart Cities Laboratory with the Department of Management & Innovation Systems, University of Salerno.
Since 2021 he has been a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering Science, University of Johannesburg and since 2022 Fellow of the Distinguished Scientist Fellowship Program, King Saud University.
His research activities are centered on demand response, energy management, the integration of distributed energy resources in smart grids, electricity markets, and planning and management of power systems.

I am a microbiologist with a great interest in fungi. Within mycology my main research focuses on the functional diversity of fungi, especially yeasts. Among the yeasts the genera Cryptococcus and Malassezia gets most attention focusing on diversity, comparative genomics, genetic patterns underlying speciation, pathogenesis, and their role in the human mycobiome. Another aim is to make the taxonomy of yeasts in agreement with new molecular phylogenetic insights, e.g., based on multigene or whole genome comparisons, and see of the resulting groupings have predictive value, e.g., for biotechnological purposes. Developing diagnostics tools and testing antifungal susceptibility pattern is important too. Together with the international yeast biodiversity/taxonomy community we are working on www.theyeasts.org, an updatable electronic and open access information system on all yeast biodiversity, and their applied features, e.g., for the medical and biotechnological fields.
In collaboration I also address biotechnological properties of (non-conventional) yeasts, such as tolerance to various stresses of importance for biotechnology, bioethanol production, and various fermentations.

Annamaria Petrozza received her PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge (UK) with a thesis on the study of optoelectronic processes at organic and hybrid semiconductors interfaces under the supervision of Dr. J.S. Kim and Prof Sir R.H. Friend. From July 2008 to December 2009 she worked as research scientist at the Sharp Laboratories of Europe, Ltd.
In 2010 she joined the newly founded Center for Nano Science and Technology (CNST) of IIT in Milan. Since 2013 she leads the “Advanced Materials for Optoelectronics” Research Line at CNST.
She got the “Innovators Under 35 Italy 2014” award by the MIT Technology Review for her pioneering work on perovskites. She has been selected among the “Emerging Investigators 2017” by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
In 2017 Annamaria received the highly competitive European Research Council Cosolidator grant, a 2.2M Euros award. In 2022 she was awarded the the "Innovation in Materials Characterization Award" by the Materials Research Society.

Corina Constantinescu is Professor of Mathematics and Director of the Institute for Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, at the University of Liverpool. Her research focuses on analytical methods for deriving exact or asymptotic results for ruin probabilities, with light or heavy-tailed assumptions in complex insurance risk models. Recently, she worked on financial inclusion, specifically fair pricing and regulation of microfinance and microinsurance practices. She serves as associate editor in a number of actuarial journals and is part of the publicity team of Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability.
Prior to being an academic, Corina worked as an actuary and led the life insurance department of one of the first private Romanian insurance companies. Since 2013, together with Professor Severine Arnold of HEC Lausanne, they have been organizing the PARTY conferences for young researchers (unil.ch/party). EM has pioneered the field of theoretical/computational modeling of organohalide perovskites for solar cells applications. He authored the first paper on the subject (First-Principles Modeling of Mixed Halide Organometal Perovskites for Photovoltaic Applications, J. Phys. Chem. C 2013, DOI: 10.1021/jp4048659), which was the most read article in J. Phys. Chem. C published in 2013, despite it was published in June.
After this initial study, Edoardo has continued to investigate the electronic and optical properties of organohalide perovskites in a series of several subsequent papers devoted to perovskite solar cells modeling. With her team, she has also developed, using magnetic resonance images, quantitative and fully automated systems for many knee and hip articular tissues and their changes over time, enabling the quantification of articular tissue alterations during osteoarthritis. These systems have been used in clinical, epidemiological, biomarker research and in clinical trials. Her recent works involve the machine learning development of models for the early prediction of structural osteoarthritis progressors.

Miguel Urbano received his PhD degree in Mathematical Analysis from the University of Lisbon in 1999. Before joining KAUST in 2022, he had been a Full Professor at the University of Coimbra since 2009.

Adil Ahmed Alshoaibi, Prof. Ülo Niinemets got PhD from the University of Tartu, Estonia in 1996, and has worked as postdoc in Germany (Univ. Bayreuth), Belgium (Univ. Antwerp) and Italy (Centro di Ecologia Alpina). Since 2006 he works as full professor at EMU and is distinguished fellow at KSU since 2023.
He has specific expertise in quantification and predictive modelling of plant carbon gain and trace gas exchange at scales ranging from molecules to leaves, ecosystems, landscapes and biomes. Gamal ElMasry has BSc. and MSc. degrees in Agricultural Engineering (Suez Canal University, Egypt) as well as a Master of Engineering in Environmental Science and Technology (IHE institute, The Netherlands). He received his PhD in optical and spectral imaging as a joint project between Suez Canal University (Egypt) and McGill University (Canada). His research activities focussed on the applications of optical and spectral techniques such as machine vision, spectroscopy and spectral imaging for quality evaluation of different biomaterials such as fruits, vegetables, meat and grains. He was appointed by different research institutes in Japan, Norway, Ireland, UK, France and Spain during which a great deal of experience was acquired and many peer-reviewed research articles in the field were published. Several designs of optical systems were established and tested in a wide range of applications. In particular, hyperspectral imaging has proved very useful as a rapid, reagent-less and non-destructive tool for various quantitative applications in chemistry, pharmaceutics and the food industry for quality control and fast material analyses. Professor Darbhe Jayarama Bhat, graduated from University of Mysore (1971) and obtained Ph.D. (1980) and D.Sc. (2017) in Botany from University of Madras, India, has been engaged in teaching and researches in Mycology for over 4½ decades. He made significant contributions to taxonomy and floristics of Microfungi (Ascomycota) by describing numerous new and interesting fungi from several countries around the world. His monograph ‘Fascinating Microfungi (Hyphomycetes) of Western Ghats, India’ (2010) is widely referred by researchers and students of mycology.
Prof. Bhat has taught Mycology and Plant Pathology to graduate students and guided several students for Ph.D. in Mycology in Asmara University, Eritrea (1981-87), Mangalore University (1988-90) and Goa University (1990-2011), India, Mae Fah Luang University, Chiang Rai, Thailand (2012-15) and Dali University, Kunming, China (2017).

Hendrik Poorter is Plant Ecophysiologist. He studied and worked in Groningen/Utrecht/Canberra/Sydney/Jülich. His PhD was on causes and consequences of interspecific variation in growth rate among plants, and a post-doc on the reasons for interspecific variation in Photosynthetic Nitrogen Use Efficiency. Other topics of interest are plant responses to elevated CO2, biomass allocation, plant chemical composition and trait correlation networks. He currently studies the response of plants to their abiotic environment by means of meta-analysis, systematically establishing dose-response curves for >100 plant traits.

Prof. Javed Ali currently holds the position of Full Professor in Pharmaceutics at the Department of Pharmaceutics, School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, and is in charge of the Intellectual Property Management Cell, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi.
He passed his B. Pharm. and M. Pharm. with distinction from Jamia Hamdard and bagged gold medals in 1994 and 1996, respectively. He earned a Ph.D. in the year 2000. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology, University of Frankfurt, Germany in 2005. He has been involved in teaching, research, mentoring, advising, and administration for the past 26 years.

Daniele Boffi is professor of applied mathematics at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia.
Before joining KAUST he was professor of numerical analysis at the University of Pavia in Italy.
His research is devoted to the numerical approximation of partial differential equations, with particular interest in the finite element method and in mixed finite elements. Some of his most active research areas concern the approximation of eigenvalue problems arising from partial differential equations and the numerical modeling of fluid-structure interaction problems. He is coauthor of one of the most widely used book on mixed finite elements and he is author of a highly cited survey on the approximation of eigenvalue problems.

Ivan Koulakov is a head of laboratory of seismic tomography at IPGG SB RAS, which performs the full cycle of seismological studies starting from installation of seismic network and development of algorithms for seismic data analysis to calculation of seismic models of real geological objects and interpretation. Ivan Koulakov has performed investigations of various geological structures throughout the world, such as active volcanoes, fault zones, rifting systems, geothermal fields, collision and subduction zones. He has created an algorithm for local earthquake tomography LOTOS (Koulakov, 2009), which is available in open access and used by many researchers worldwide. There are other modifications of this algorithm developed by Ivan Koulakov that provide the information about seismic anisotropy, attenuation and temporal changes. Moreover, he has created an algorithm for surface-wave tomography inversion based on the ambient noise data. Most of tomography results published by Ivan Koulakov and coauthors are accompanied with geological interpretation.

Prof. Dr. Christophe Len received his Ph.D. in 1995 from the Université de Picardie Jules Verne followed by a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Hull (UK). In 1997, he became assistant Professor at UPJV and was promoted to full Professor in 2004 at the Université de Poitiers (France).
In 2010, he moved as full Professor to the Université de Technologie de Compiègne – UTC (France). Since 2017, he has developed his research at Chimie ParisTech (France).
He has published ~ 230 original publications and review articles, 10 book chapters, and 11 patents with an H-index of 42 and ~ 6000 citations. Among recent awards and recognition to his scientific career, he was promoted Honorary Professor of the University of Hull, England (2012–2018), Honorary Professor at the University of Delhi, India (2022), Honorary Professor at the Xi’an Jiaotong University, China (2022-2025) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC, 2015).
In 2017, he was honored with the 2017 Glycerine Innovation Award sponsored by the American Cleaning Institute and the National Biodiesel Board. His current research explores organic chemistry and catalysis applied to biomass.

Luigi Vaccaro is a Full Professor at the University of Perugia where he is leading the Green S.O.C. group, http://greensoc.chm.unipg.it. He is Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and he is currently appointed as Associate Editor of the RSC Advances and of Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry.
His recognitions comprise the Europa Medal from the Society of Chemical Industry – London (2001), the ADP Award from Merck's Chemistry Council for “Creative work in organic chemistry” (2006 and 2007), the G. Professor Mohamed A. Ghanem obtained his PhD in Chemistry in 2002 from the University of Southampton (UK) in the field of synthesis, characterizations, and applications of nanostructured materials.

He joins King Saud University in 2012 as an associate prof. of physical chemistry and was promoted to full professor in 2017. His research interests focus on nanomaterials, fabrication, characterization, and applications for sensors, energy production and storage.

Martin Pumera is the Director of the Center for the Advanced Functional Nanorobots and a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, and Chief Investigator of Future Energy & Innovation Lab at CEITEC, Brno, Czech Republic. He received his Ph.D. at Charles University, Czech Republic, in 2001.
After two postdoctoral stays (in the United States and Spain), he became a tenured group leader at the National Institute for Materials Science, Japan, in 2006.
In 2010 Martin joined Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, where he worked as a tenured associate professor for almost a decade. Prof. Pumera has broad interests in nanomaterials and microsystems, in the specific areas of electrochemistry and synthetic chemistry of 2D nanomaterials, nanotoxicity, micro and nanomachines, and 3D printing. Martin is “2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Highly Cited Researcher” by Clarivate Analytics (as the only chemist in the Czech Republic). He published over 820 papers which received more than 50,000 citations.

I am an evolutionary geneticist with particular interest in conservation genomics of birds and other vertebrates. I use population genetic theory, genomic data, and computer simulations to study genomic erosion faced by many threatened species in the biodiversity crisis. I am also working on (human) parasites and pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2 and Cryptosporidium, as well as the pathogens of plants (e.g., oomycetes). Together with colleagues at the UEA and Norwich Research Park, we study a wide range of species (guppies, diatoms, oomycetes, aphids, pink pigeons, and other threatened bird species).
We are also developing software for population genetic and genomic analysis such as Micro-Checker and Hybrid-Check. I am member of the IUCN’s Conservation Genetics Specialist Group and Deputy Director of the Earth and Life Systems Alliance (ELSA).
